The Maastricht university was established in 1976, so it is one of the youngest institutions for higher education in the Netherlands. It is distinct from other universities in this country because of its “problem - based learning” and furthermore because of its strong international orientation, with about 50% of the students coming from abroad. In the third edition of the QS “Top 50 Under 50” ranking, Maastricht University obtained the 6th place. According to this list Maastricht University is the best performing young university in Europe.
