28 Promoting the Sciences The Klaus Tschira Stiftung was established in 1995 by the physicist Klaus Tschira. It is among Europe’s largest non-profit foundations funded from private means. The Klaus Tschira Stiftung promotes the advancement of natural sciences, mathematics and computer science and wants to raise appreciation in these fields. The commitment of the Klaus Tschira Stiftung ranges from kindergarten to schools, universities and research institutions all over Germany. To sustainably promote and boost selected topics, the Foundation maintains its own institutes like the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies or the Forscherstation - the Klaus Tschira Com- petence Center for Early Science Education. It educates kindergarten and primary school teach- ers how to spark the enthusiam for natural phe- nomena among young children. The National Institute for Science Communication (NaWik) in Karlsruhe trains scientists and students for the dialogue with the public. Last but not least: To organize the Heidelberg Laureate Forum the Klaus Tschira Stiftung created the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation. The Klaus Tschira Stiftung created, launched and supports a wide range of initiatives to promote the sciences and their appreciation. About the Forum
