16 About the Forum The Heidelberg Laureate Forum is a one-week event combining scientific, network and out- reach activities. To organize the Forum the Klaus Tschira Stiftung, a German foundation which supports the natu- ral sciences, mathematics and computer science, founded the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foun- dation (HLFF). Each year the HLFF invites the winners of the most prestigious awards in mathematics and computer science, the Abel Prize, the Fields Medal (including the Nevanlinna Prize for contri- butions in “Mathematical Aspects of Information Science”), and the ACM Turing Award to partici- pate in the Forum. Once the focus has been defined in close com- munication with the laureates and the Scientific Committee, applications from young researchers for participation in the Forum are solicited. The first phase of the application process is primari- ly handled by the award-granting organizations, supported by the Heidelberg Institute for The- oretical Studies, Mathematisches Forschungs- zentrum Oberwolfach and by Schloss Dagstuhl, Structure Leibniz Center for Informatics. The candidates proposed by these organizations are reviewed by the Foundation’s Scientific Committee, which makes the final decision. The outreach activities are targeted both at the general public and at high school students in particular. Most of the scientific program of the Forum is accessible worldwide via livestreams and after the event as recordings in a media archive. The formal agreement between the organizers and the award-granting institutions was signed in Oslo on May 22, 2012.
