You’ll have to admit that the “riff-raff” didn’t attend! I’ve been to plenty of shows that didn’t cost a dime to get into... and the people who attended didn’t spend anything at all. They were just looking for a way to havefunonaweekendafternoonatnocost!!! In any case... as I said, there was no shortage of attendance! In fact, the weather was fairly threatening so I was surprised to see so many. I don’t know what the actual attendance was... the sponsors claim 45,000 and I believe that is most likely a very accuratenumberbecausethewholeeventwas packed with people and they were charging admission. Both factors justify the numbers. And most exhibitors I talked to seemed to be doing a decent business. As you may expect there are always a few who had complaints... it happens in even the best shows... but the overwhelmingopinionIheardthroughoutthe show was that it was a good event and they would be back the following year. There is a juried art section that is part of the show... and for that matter even the crafts I saw were juried. But there is a sizable commercial section as well that was clearly not part of any juried event. The good news for the juried section is that the prize money is decent... best in show was $2000 and then there were another $4500 in prizes awarded in a variety of categories. The money had been already awarded by the time I got there on Sunday afternoon and I even spoke with a couple of the recipients. The Blueberry festival has only been in business for a few years so it is a relatively new show. It’s clear however that this is an upandcomingevent! Rightnowit’sadecent showwithreasonablesalesandclearlythereis a core of exhibitors who have every intention of returning each year. The organization is verystrongandthepromotionisoutstanding! The show sponsors didn’t leave any stone unturned when it comes to advertising and you’d have to be deaf, dumb and blind to not know about the festival if you live anywhere within 75 miles or so of Brooksville. The show was in several newspapers, on TV, on billboards, flyers, posters, churches... you name it and there was probably some sort of promotion! This is an event to keep your eye on! I think over the next few years it could very well be an excellent show with a strong following, greatcrowdsandreallynicesales. Right now it’s a decent show and virtually everyone make money but the potential for the future is very bright!
