This hostel is located in the tiny village of Buttermere, which is in the quieter portion of the Lake District. It is a perfect home base for hillwalking in the area and the staff are incredibly helpful about suggesting routes. When we visited, there were other families and people of all ages on walking holidays. The food is not included but if you are traveling by foot or public transport, it is convenient that you can eat morning and evening meals in the hostel, as well as order a packed lunch for your days of exploring. Also, it is clean and the rooms only have six bunks each so you don’t feel terribly crowded by others. Private rooms are available as well.
