TheRainbowGazetteissue3.spring.2014.#10RBWwww.TheRainbowVenues.co.uk H A M city of colours Sept 6th-7th Over the weekend of the 6th and 7th September, Digbeth will be transformed into the West Midlands largest outdoor art gallery with an exciting new addition to Birmingham’s calendar of cultural events - the City of Colours festival. The event, being led by the team at Street Art Birmingham, involves a partnership of over 20 expert organisations including The Bench 504, The Custard Factory, Boxxed, GraffitiArtist.com and The Rainbow Venues. Over 80 artists from across the UK and wider will transform this part of the city, using empty walls as their canvas, including the likes of Roa, Broken Fingaz, Aryz and Phlegm. A celebration of urban art forms, the streets will be turned into a sea of colour and alongside the live painting, will be break dancing, DJs, live illustration battles, beat box battles, cinema screenings & other innovative and engaging visual art forms.Aimed at all ages, graffiti, dance and music workshops will be happening throughout festival - everyone will have the opportunity to get involved. In the more immediate future, Street Art Birmingham are delivering live street art at MADE Festival taking place on 2-5th May at the Rainbow Venues. Eight of Birmingham’s top artists will be creating a new backdrop for The Arena in time for the crazy line-up of DJs performing there over the days to follow. So, the kid from Homealone; Macaulay Culkin is now in a band that likes to sing about Pizzas. The band have rewrite Velvet Underground tracks to be based around yes….Pizza. ‘All tomorrow’s parties’ has been transformed into ‘All the pizza parties’. Weirded out yet? The Pizza Underground will be performing at the Hare & Hounds on 26th May. Topokki situated on Hurst street offers modern Korean food in a contemporary setting. The menu entails Korean dishes such as Bibimbap; fried rice with meat or vegetables in a clay pot served with a fried egg. Jeon; Korean style wheatflour pancakes and mouth watering Octopus curry just to name a few.
