Arriving via the Grand Union canal he moored up under the spaghetti junction, leaving a 400 daffodil sculpture in his footsteps. This signified the start of an 11 year world tour of The 25 Paintings, with each city seeing 3 months of the exhibition. Starting in Birming- ham, Drummond is set to work on a variety of on-going projects across the Digbeth area, with The 25 Paintings being displayed at the Eastside Projects public art gallery. The various canvas designs will publicize the tasks Drummond plans to pursue and are simple text- based images. It is here that he also plans to give three performance lectures titled Art vs Money, Painting vs Sculpting and Life vs Death.   The city is to turn into his playground and we can expect to see a plentiful amount of strange and won- derful behaviour, listing ‘Make beds on the streets from wood, Dance on tables, Drift down rivers, Knit blankets, Extend the soup line around the globe and vandalise billboards’ as some of the things he will get up to.   The following four cities planned after Birmingham are Berlin, Guangzhou, Memphis and Kolkata. If all goes to plan the tour will conclude where it began, under the spaghetti junction in April 2025. Monthly Evaluations   One of the most appreciated and show- cased Romanian artists of her time, Ioana Nemes was fascinated by the mysterious methods behind the visual, verbal and psychological systems that define us. Driven by the urge to visualize and portray these methods, the ‘‘Monthly Evaluations’’ project was born. She developed a five parameter system in which she defined evaluations of her day-to-day existence; physical, emotional, intellectual, financial and luck. Since 2003, every day of her life has been analysed and then provided an appropriate colour and quotation. When exhibited, she would pick a small selection of days and then adapt them into murals that signified milestones. In this exhibition we are presented with three main themes, ‘Dreams, Vanishing Point and Work Harder’, all of which aim to demonstrate the meta-narrative of her ongoing critical evaluations.   Homed in Digbeth Birmingham, Eastside Projects is the peoples gallery. A gallery that is envisioned and organised by the the artists themselves, providing a free, public exhibition space. Its appeal is its unique environment, crafted from an old industrial building. It includes a combina- tion of galleries and studios that showcase experimental contemporary art, proposing ways in which art can benefit and support the cultural growth and community of Birmingham. The gallery itself is an artwork. Numerous long-term works are located through- out building, which formed components of past exhibitions. The gallery office ‘‘Pleasure Island’’ is a structure designed by Heather and Ivan Morison in 2007. The door handle exiting to the street is work by Matthew Harrison entitled ‘‘Wilkommen. Bienvenue. Welcome. C’mon in’’. And a totemic structure named ‘‘Local Myths’’ by Jennifer Tee has been a permanent since 2010. Since opening in 2008 the gallery has con- tributed hugely to Birmingham, successful- ly supporting independent culture in the surrounding areas it has enhanced the city and region. 86 Heath Mill Ln, Birmingham, West Midlands B9 4AR T: 0121 771 1778 Free entry - Open Wednesday to Saturday 12-5pm 15 March - 14 June words by: Mike Taylor
