17Foster City living!LOCAL™ City Guide Protect & Serve Top-ranked Fire Department The Foster City Fire Department has maintained a Class 2 Fire Protection Rating for the past 14 years. The rating is based on the quality of the Fire Department’s communications system, department proficiency and city water system (where 1 is the top rating on a 10 point scale). Foster City’s Class 2 rating places the department within the top 7% of fire departments in the state and the top 1% in the nation. Only 55 agencies in California have earned a class 2 rating. Additionally, the Department successfully participates in the San Mateo County Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Services Group (JPA) which provides engine-based paramedic service to the community and coordinated dispatch of all fire agencies in the County. In Top 100 Safest Cities Foster City was ranked #55 on the Top 100 Safest Cities in the US according to NeighborhoodScout.org. Foster City has a very low crime rate and, year after year, is ranked one of the safest cities in California in which to live and work. Foster City crime rates are also significantly lower than San Mateo County as a whole. The Foster City Police Department is a full-service police agency that works closely with community groups, residents and businesses to ensure the City’s crime rate remains low and the quality of life remains high. The Department’s average response time to even non-emergency calls for service is less than five minutes; a statistic which is indicative of their motto: “Excellent Service—Every Call—Every Contact—Every Day!” PhotoscourtesyofCityofFosterCityFireDepartmentandPoliceDepartment
