www.fbreporter.com FOOD & BEVERAGE REPORTER | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016 | 27 F lexicon has completed the construction of a new test laboratory in PE for its FLEXI-DISC™ tubular cable conveyors and integrated bulk handling equipment. The tubular conveyor gently and quietly moves fragile bulk foods and non-foods within smooth stainless steel tubing routed at any angle over short or long distances. It’s suitable for food products that are prone to breakage or degradation such as cereals, coffees, teas, dried fruits, frozen vegetables, grains, nuts, peas, pet foods, seeds, snack foods and spices. Flexicon’s test lab has separate 10cm and 15 cm tubular conveyor circuits with drive systems and tensioners that can be configured with metered and non-metered inlet adapters, valved and full-flow discharges that allow for rapid connection to a variety of full-size upstream and downstream bulk- handling equipment also produced by the company. President of Flexicon, David Gill, says: “The lab enables us to simulate customer installations and verify system performance using the customer’s actual material, which takes the risk and guesswork out of ordering these systems.” Equipment that can be integrated with the conveyors includes inlet hoppers, bag dump stations, bulk bag dischargers, bulk bag fillers, drum/ box/container tippers, weigh batching/ blending systems, screeners, filling machines and storage vessels. All of which is done via the global IO-Link communication protocol. Traditional sensors send only on/off information and if a sensor fails users will only know when an operation goes awry downstream. IO-Link-enabled sensors provide a continuous flow of diagnostic information from the production line. “These smart sensors enable smart machines that enable smarter manufacturing,” says business manager for control systems at Rockwell Automation Sub-Saharan Africa, Christo Buys. “By combining simple implem- entation with powerful data and diagnostics, smart sensors with IO-Link can optimise machines today – and prepare them for the future – to help increase uptime and productivity.” Rockwell Automation: +27 (0)11 654 9700; www.rockwellautomation.com The Flexicon test lab … taking the risk out of tubular conveyor systems.
