13 14 THE BALCONY APPOINTMENTS The original 1888 Warren Organ was removed during the safe removal of the deteriorated original choir loft. The organ has been safely stored for future use. A new pipe organ, Opus 3907 has been commissioned. It is designed and built by Frères Casavant, St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. Opus 3907 is a world class instrument designed to attract internationally celebrated organ players. The newly designed balcony & organ returns the beautiful illumination of the interior west stained glass window. Opus 3907 is designed to frame the opening to celebrate the west stained glass window making it clearly visible from inside the Cathedral. Opus 3907 will be one of a kind with a dynamic cultural and global reach. Casavant Freres, located in Quebec, is one of the largest international pipe organ builders in the world.  St. Michael’s Cathedral organ is currently in production with delivery targeted for November 2015 and instrumental voicing in situ in August 2016. Opus 3907 is a four component pipe organ showcasing 75 stops, and 4,143 pipes. It will include customized split pipe chests to allow an unobstructed view of the magnificent west stained glass window. One of the outstanding architectural features will be the chamade – trumpet chest that will extend from the front of the balcony over the centre aisle. The organ will be housed within the new structural steel and solid oak clad balcony offering an additional 250 person seating capacity.
