2015 JURY BEST SHORT FILM/BEST SHORT DOCUMENTARY BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY Margit Kleinman Margit studied French and German linguistics and literature in Wuerzburg and Paris and holds an MA from the University of Tuebingen/Germany. From 1987 to 2012, she was the program director at the Goethe-Institut Los Angeles. In May of 2012, she assumed the directorship at Villa Aurora, an artist residency, and the Foundation for American- European Relations in Pacific Palisades. Arnold Schwartzman London-born Arnold Schwartzman is an Academy Award® winning filmmaker (in 1981 for documentary film Genocide) and noted graphic designer. He was appointed the director of design for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Since 1996, he has designed many of the key elements for the Annual Academy Awards® (Oscar®), including commemorative posters, billboards, cinema trailers and printed programs for the Awards ceremony and Governors Ball. He has created a number of short video exhibits for the Museum of Tolerance, as well as a permanent eight-screen video exhibit on the achievements of American Jewry, and a “Time Line” mural on American Jewish history, for the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. In 2002 Schwartzman was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) HM Queen Elizabeth II for services to the British film industry in the U.S.A. He is also a Governor of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA/LA), and serves on the Board of Hollywood Heritage, Inc. Paolo Davanzo A filmmaker, educator and community activist whose work is a catalyst for creative collaboration and positive social change, he currently lives and works in Los Angeles where he is the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Echo Park Film Center, a non-profit neighborhood media arts center found at echoparkfilmcenter.org. He is originally from Italy. Roger Staub Born in Switzerland, Roger is the Creative Director of the Los Angeles and New York-based design company Infect Productions. He develops stage designs and show concepts for bands and artists, and designs video content for live events and TV shows such as the Grammys, Country Music Awards, Swiss Music Awards, Green Day, Jay-Z, Eminem, Beyoncé, Maroon 5, and many more. He also works as director and cinematographer on music videos, commercials, web series and short films. He lives somewhere between Los Angeles, New York, and Zurich. Jay Miracle With extensive experience as a filmmaker in both film and television, Miracle has worked with Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, and Milos Forman. He studied acting and worked as a commercials director, and in the past eight years directed, produced, edited, and/or wrote such projects as: Academy Award ®-winning 20 Feet from Stardom, Hearts of Darkness, A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse, which won him a Primetime Emmy and A.C.E. editing awards; Impostors for the Discovery Channel, nominated for a Primetime Emmy; American Midnight and Lost Lightning, The Stolen Secrets of Nikola Tesla for Liberty Entertainment, and wrote Dick Powell, Thanks a Million for the A&E biography series. Most recently, Jay directed the independent feature Submission and edited and/or wrote five feature documentaries. He is a member of the Producers Guild of America, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, I.A.T.S.E, the International Documentary Association, and Film Independent. 34
