Alaska on the Go prevew

Un-Cruise Adventures (877) 901-1009 www.un-cruise.com This innovative company operates under a strict policy of not being too strict when it comes to schedules. Flexibility is key during a cruise with this Seattle-based company, and passengers reap the rewards of sailing through the hidden coves and secluded waterways of southeast Alaska. Itineraries range from seven to 21 days and originate in Seattle, Ketchikan, Sitka, or Juneau. Active cruisers will enjoy two ships, the Wilderness Explorer and the Wilderness Discovery, both accommodating around 75 passengers. A select number of itineraries in Alaska are designated as Kids in Nature sailings, offering age-appropriate activities and adventures just for children. Kids will hike, take a kayak float or stand-up paddleboard ride, listen for whales with the on-board hydrophones, and generally stay busy from dawn to dusk. The atmosphere is decidedly casual, with family-style meals and lots of meeting and greeting among passengers. Cabins are comfortable and are configured to accommodate up to three passengers each, but crew members are well versed in larger groups and families. Those more comfortable with luxury cruising will enjoy experiences on board the Safari Endeavor, an 86-passenger vessel, or the Safari Explorer, a 36-passenger yacht. Both offer the same excellent service as the Adventure trips, but with an upscale attitude. Massages, free cocktails, and more personal attention define these cruises. Fares begin around $3,695 for a late-season cruise, with the same inclusive meals and activities as the adventure cruising boats. Families participating in Kids in Nature sailings receive 25 percent off fares for children 12 and younger on all Un-Cruise trips. Lindblad Expeditions (800) 397-3348 www.expeditions.com Working in partnership with the National Geographic Society, Lindblad Expeditions combines the intimacy of a small ship with the scientific exploration by which the National Geographic brand is known.
