17 Helping Others Along with everything else you're doing to help yourself, start by doing some volunteer work. I don't necessarily mean structured volunteer work where you go somewhere for a certain number of hours and do work you don't like. I mean other stuff like spending time with your kids, helping out your parents, being a good friend and spouse. Be generous with yourself. For bipolar people it is especially important to share yourself. We don't necessarily get along too well if we're not constantly opening ourselves up to other parts and people of the world. You'll find that opportunities will come along each and every day to show someone else you are a spectacular person. Don't pass them up!
