Welcome everyone to the 2015 ‘Howzat for Homebase’ charity event. Macmillan and the exceptional services it provides are close to many people’s hearts and was chosen by Homebase colleagues as the charity they wanted to support in 2015/16. This brilliant charity, together with The Irish Cancer Society in the Republic of Ireland, provides specialist cancer nurses, as well as therapeutic and emotional care through patients’ cancer treatment and will benefit from all our fundraising activity today. It’s surprising to discover that it costs just £27 to fund a Macmillan nurse for one hour, but the work they do and the comfort they bring to patients and their families is worth so much more than this. 98% of Macmillan’s income comes from fundraising events and voluntary sources, and Homebase are committed to helping to raise money and help them continue the great work they do. This is why you are here today. I would like to thank everyone involved in the planning of this event and all of you for coming along and helping Homebase raise much needed funds for Macmillan.
