Spanish Club Union Grove’s Spanish Club is a new opportunity for students to learn more about the Spanish culture, whether or not they take Spanish classes. The club’s sponsor is Ms. Sophie Pope, Spanish II teacher. The club will meet the first Wednesday of each month in Room 112 at 3:30. On Tuesday evenings, the club will have occasional outings to local Mexican restaurants to learn how to order meals in Spanish, as well as to practice having conversations in Span- ish. During the meetings, club members will learn dances such as the salsa and tango, make crafts, and participate in Spanish holiday customs. The club will lead two commu- nity service projects benefiting the people of Latin America. The band will hold their concerts in the gym. Enviromental Club Environmental Club has been working to get an upright water bottle refilling station installed in the cafete- ria. They believe the appliance, called a Hydration Station, will encourage students to both cut down on the use of disposable plastic water bottles and to drink more water. “We really want to get this going this year,” said Ms. Amy Duty, Environmental Club sponsor. “I think the students will really like the idea.” The club will be holding a recycling drive for used cell phones and electronics to raise money for the project later this month.
