CSET’s administration and faculty, numbering 124, is comprised of world-renowned scientists and scholars. Known for its diversity, students are taught by professors from the U.S. and a number of countries, including Armenia, Jordan, Taiwan, South Korea, China, Egypt, Canada, Cameroon, Czech Republic, Iran, India, France, Brazil, Lebanon, Kenya, Japan, Poland, Turkey, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Russia, St. Kittz and Sudan. NOTABLE FACULTY Dr. Jerzy Leszczynski, chemistry professor and director of the Interdisciplinary Center of Nanotoxicity, is an internationally renowned scientist who holds numerous honors, including the U.S Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring, which was presented to him by President Barack Obama. He also holds the highest academic honor that can be bestowed in his native Poland and the prestigious Award of the Academic Council of the National University of Kiev, Ukraine. He also holds the prestigious Marie Curie medal from the Polish Chemical Society. Dr. Kamal S. Ali, a computer engineering professor, has been awarded a patent for his Hardware in the Loop Simulator (HILS) for small autopilots used in unmanned aerial vehicles or drones. The project is a collaboration of JSU and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. Ali collaborated with his student, Justin Shumaker, who currently works for the Army Research Laboratory. Dr. Paresh Ray, an internationally known chemist, has been selected as one of 30 recipients worldwide of the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman 2014 award. Ray and his team of researchers are developing a method to kill cancer cells without harming healthy cells. Dr. Hari Cohly, associate professor of biology, is an inventor on a patent for a new method of removing and preventing rust. The process could revolutionize numerous industries, through the prevention of corrosion on objects ranging from small tools to massive bridges and ocean-going ships. Dr. Paul Tchounwou, presidential distinguished professor, is an American Association for the Advancement of Science Mentor Award recipient. The award honors individuals who demonstrate extraordinary leadership to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in science and engineering fields and careers. An internationally recognized scholar, Tchounwou is editor-in-chief of two international journals including the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (MPDI, Basel, Switzerland) and Environmental Toxicology (John Wiley & Sons, New York, USA). Dr. Shuangzhang Tu, an associate professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, is an associate fellow in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. CSET FACULTY HIGHLIGHTS PAGE4
