SSO Brochure

www.sabinestorage.com • Caverns developed by solution mining require an extensive period of time to achieve the final desired storage cavern volume. • The objective of SMUG is to shorten this period of time by making a smaller cavern (developed by conventional leaching) available at an earlier date, while allowing resuming cavern development under gas until completion of the final desired cavern volume. • SMUG lowers base gas requirement since water injection can be used for pressure maintenance. • Higher downhole pressure is required since less annular area is available for deliverability. • Allows recovery of lost capacity due to salt creep. • SSO has practical experience with SMUG operations at Moss Bluff, TX and Egan, LA. Initial Cavern Developed Using Conventional Leaching Cavern Enlargement, Developed Using SMUG (Reverse) Insolubles (Sump) Solution Mining Under Gas (SMUG) • SSO has knowledge of the current regulatory status regarding SMUG operations. 20
