CAW_Annual Fundraiser_2014 FINAL

Hello Ron, Besides being one of the founding spirits of The Center for Art in Wood, you have graced the world of art in wood with your amazing creations that both calm and excite us. I am honored to be associated with you on the Center’s Publications Committee and to have participated in the documentations of your many works in our exhibition books over the years. I salute you. Judson Randall S heryl and I fell in love with Ron’s work the very first time we saw it in the White House permanent craft collection and he became one of our most favorite artists. We were thrilled to host him at our house when we arranged a demonstration while we were Program Directors for the Capitol Area Woodturners. Seeing the process, tools, and techniques that he uses made us appreciate his work even more. The results of his long and arduous work on a piece are a stunning 3-D representation of sometimes complex items in nature which reflect his unique and personal interpretation of them. His work exhibits a warmth that makes you want to touch and hold it. It evokes emotions, it moves you. It also serves as a long lasting tribute to the original object in nature whose own life span normally pales in comparison. As collectors, Ron’s pieces are among our most cherished. When we were asked by a museum to donate several pieces of our collection, we were both pleased and saddened that our favorite Pink Ivory piece by Ron was selected. But we realized that it now had a better home where thousands of people could see and appreciate Ron’s work. Tim and Sheryl Kochman 34 35 3435
