S ynthetics have become a growing concern in the smoke shop community, and rightly so while many retailers have stayed clear of any such products. But one synthetic that's been around for years, and that is still readily available, is fake urine. The Whizzinator is the gold standard when it comes to synthetic urine systems. For many years, it was advertised in the pages of counter culture magazines as a means of defeating drug tests. The kit came with an artificial penis, concentrated urine, a reservoir bag, and a heating element so that the “urine” could be kept at body temperature. The basic formula and delivery method remain the same, but since 2008, there's been a change in usage and target demographic for the product. New company owners, Alternative Lifestyle Systems (ALS) rebranded The Whizzinator as an adult novelty item. What they realized was that aside from its illicit usage, the life like device was also being used in another capacity within the sexual fetish community. Urolagnia (also known as urophilia) is a sexual fetish with a focus on urination. People with urolagnia get a thrill from the act of urinating in public, or peeing on or being peed on by another person. Fetishes involving urine are often called water sports or piss play. While you're shaking your head in disgusted disbelief, Google “Golden Shower” and you'll find some 2,250,000 results. There are serious forums with tips and advice, photo galleries, and even an official dating sites where people can meet others with similar pee-pee predispositions. “When I started with the company, and the idea was introduced to me, it seemed like a good idea and I understood where they were going with the product,” says ASL General Manager Frank Avalos, “but what really surprised me was the amount of people who responded to our initial advertisement and the way in which we portrayed the product.” You might think those turned on by the sensation of warm pee spraying their naked body are a bunch of freaks. But Avalos says you'd be shocked what your neighbors are doing behind closed doors. “It's something that's so taboo that it's not socially accepted – if you hear of somebody peeing on somebody else, it's usually for a bad reason and isn't associated with any kind of pleasure,” Avalos says. “The people who are into it don't like to go out and necessarily talk about it or let on that they're even somewhat interested. It's very hush hush.” If people aren't apt to talk openly about their fetishes, then why would a smoke shop, or any brick-and-mortar retailer, bother carrying the product when it would be easier to order discretely from the internet. “It's a product for which the customer already has a need; they're not going to be shopping around to get the best deal. It's more something that they want to use right away,” Avalos says. “When a customer asks about the product it's a guaranteed sale,” Avalos says. “Word will definitely spread within the urine community,” Avalos adds. “As soon as one person finds out that you have The Whizzinator, and they successfully use it at home, they're going to happily tell their friends.” Here’s the product description from The Whizzinator’s website: The Whizzinator Touch is a discreet synthetic urine device that is safe for all types of scenarios. It has the most life-like realistic fake penis on the market! The medical grade synthetic urine device features an ultra-quiet flow system that is very easy to use and operates with ONE hand. It has been extensively tested and proven to work in real life situations. continued on page 82 HQ TRADE MAGAZINE APRIL 2016 48
