28 | JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016 | FOOD & BEVERAGE REPORTER www.fbreporter.com P ropak Africa 2016 event director Joshua Low says research has confirmed that Propak Africa with its co-located shows is the largest show of its kind in the southern hemisphere. “We’ve had an overwhelming response from companies with over 90% of available exhibition space already sold and all indications are that the show will be a sell-out,” says Low. “We’re expecting high visitor attendance at this year’s show and believe that it will be a successful and enjoyable event for all participants.” Propak Africa 2016 (15-18 March at Nasrec) will host three conferences: • The Propak Africa Packaging conference (March 17 from 9am to 4:15pm) – the theme is “Investing in Africa”, devoted to bringing the African packaging industry closer together. There will be discussions on “investing in packaging for the African market”, “2016 global trends and standards influencing third world markets” and an expert platform of industry leaders who will discuss relevant matters pertaining to cardboard, glass, plastic and metal. • Gapp Print expo conference (March 16 from 8:30 to 3:15pm) – will map out the future of printing, packaging and signage industries in the context of the current South African and global economic and political environment. Carte Blanche’s Derek Watts will be master of ceremonies and political commentator/columnist Justice Malala the keynote speaker. Other speakers include Alec Hogg, packaging industry expert Linda Jackson, print industry expert Laurel Brunner and signage industry speaker and marketing GM for Mimaki Europe Mike Horsten. • Plastics SA conference (see separate story) There will also be two workshops: IPSA (Institute of Packaging South Africa) and Printing SA/ PIFSA. International exhibitors are drawn from countries such as India, China, Belgium, Turkey, Greece, Austria, Portugal, France, the UAE and the UK. Among the exhibitors at this year’s event: Manufacturer of industrial food processing equipment and packaging machinery, UK-based DC Norris (DCN), will be exhibiting alongside its SA agent, Courlanders Agencies. DCN MD David Norris says the show will be the company’s first as a partnership. “We are thrilled, looking forward to it and sure it will be the first of many,” says Norris. DCN will be exhibiting solutions for efficient, cost- effective manufacturing processes that were not previously available in SA.
