v2 Bibliography

Born of Tyneside parents, Kate H.N. was brought up with her two brothers in their family home on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. As a child, she was constantly captivated by the magic and mystery of the forest, woodland and its habitants. Her active imagination created a world of make-believe, which became the foundation of her experience in writing stories with an embedded moral over 30 years to entertain her friends and, in later years, the children of her friends. Kate has learned through life experience and a long NHS career in nursing, health visiting, midwifery, national policy development, counselling, life coaching and hypnotherapy, that the power of a relaxed mind on learning techniques that tackle emotional disturbance and illness (and how it aids recovery and health living) is endless. She, herself, has benefited from the wisdom and drive of many significant people in her life who have guided, coached, inspired and challenged her in helping her achieve her goals. Kate believes that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution to tackling life’s stressful situations, but there are some key techniques that help address anxiety, stress and low mood. In these ‘tales that teach,’ Kate HN applies the metaphor of woodland and river life in Blockley Bank to spell out some clear personal development messages, specifically for Key Stage 1 and 2 children (aged 7-11 years) that support learning how to make healthy decisions, build resilience, confidence and self-esteem. Each tale begins with guiding the reader/ listener into relaxation to free up their imagination and give their conscious minds and busy lives a rest. As if from a safe distance and watching a play, some very common situations are described so that the reader/ listener can observe, or identify with, any parallels in their own lives with those in the tales and then reflect and learn from the wisdom spoken by Eric the Oracle.
