2016 Arctic Man Guide web2

www.ArcticMan.com • 2016 • ARCTIC MAN • 3 ArcticManFounder’smessage T hank you to all race spectators, race teams and sponsors for attending the 30th an- niversary Arctic Man in 2015. Mother Nature played a huge part in the race, halting all but the women’s races. Safety will always be our priority, especially for racers but also for spectators. We have had to cancel the race only two times in a 30-year history, but here’s to a year full of snow a great con- ditions for competitors and spectators alike. This year’s race takes place April 7, 2016. The Arctic Man is a unique event that has grown in the past 30 years to be one of the major Alaska winter events. The 2016 Arctic Man will have a very large purse based on all teams returning and pick- ing up 10 new teams, which will reach our 65-team cap. Thanks to a rollover from last year’s purse, as well as generous contributions from sponsors throughout the state, we now have a $204,000 cap. Consider this: The men’s race alone offers a $61,000 prize for first place. That’s a hefty payout. This is the first time the event has given this much money away to race teams. The competition is going to be intense for all classes. The women’s ski class for 2015 did finish the race and were paid their earning for their purse. Therefore, the women’s Ski Class for 2016 will not be as big. We want to thank all of our sponsors, Polaris Outpost and Polaris, Odom Corp., AT&T, Alaska Spine Institute, Miranda Electric, Fort Knox Mine, Motorfist, Monster Energy Drink, Sunshine Travel, Worry Free Alaska, NC Machinery, Airport Rent- als, Radio 94.7 KZND, Delta Medical Transport, Alaska Dreams, Chugach National Forest Ava- lanche Center, AMMC, McClaren Lodge, Alaska State Troopers, White Spruce Trailers, Denali State Bank, Fairbanks Daily News-Miner and all the volunteers and spectators’ who help each year. The goal of the Arctic Man volunteers and of- ficials is to work very hard to make sure that safety and common sense are a priority. We will continue to improve this every year and any comments will be appreciated that can help make the event better for you and your families. We also especially want to thank the Alaska State Troopers for their support and help at the event, and Allen from McClaren Lodge for all his help grooming every night.
