Tiny Treasures Fund Helps Newborns in Need After five years of pooling their own money to help newborns of severely economically disadvantaged families, the staff at Inspira Medical Center Vineland knew the need was greater than they could keep up with. With some 2,000 babies born at the hospital each year, many of them to families far below the poverty line, nurses and social workers didn’t want any infants going home without the essential items for baby care. Social workers Ashlee Goffredi, LSW, and Tim Steinmetz, LCSW, spearheaded the effort to give the Tiny Treasures fund a boost. After an appeal to the Tiny Tim Fund in Vineland, a significant donation brought their finances to a level to make a real difference in the lives of Cumberland County’s newest residents. “We want to give a little something to help babies get started right,” said Goffredi. “If a baby doesn’t have someplace to sleep, and we have the money, we’re going to help. We are grateful to the Tiny Tim Fund and everyone who donated to this effort.” The fund helps purchase such essentials as car seats, bassinets, baby clothes, diapers and all the necessary items to keep a newborn safe and well cared for in its first month of life. Contributions to the fund can be made to the Inspira Health Network Foundation Cumberland/Salem with “Tiny Treasures” in the memo section.
