Before GIA (Gemological Institute of America) developed the D-Z Colour Grading Scale, a variety of other systems were loosely applied. The result of all these grading systems was inconsistency and inaccuracy. We like ‘G’+ for colour, but ‘H’ is still considered a white stone. Coloured diamonds are incredibly expensive; for example a pink diamond is 10x the cost of a white one! Colour Diamond colour is all about what you can’t see. Diamonds are valued by how closely they approach colourlessness – the less colour, the higher their value. (The exception to this is fancy-colour diamonds, such as pinks and blues, which lie outside this colour range.) Colourless D E F Near colour- less (Above H is considered to be white) G H I J Slightly tinted K L M N Very light yellow O P Q Light yellow R S T Yellow U- Z This is our cut-off point for colour H.
