proving that nobody connected future issues of the corona virus pandemic is new to everyone but the world is battling it with solidarity. as we navigate through this critical uncertainty, there are ways to share positivity and lift spirits and here is one that brings cheer. i am absolutely fascinated to introduce the first edition of the e-magazine of the academic year 2020- 21. as always, there is an air of great expectancy and insatiable curiosity among the readers. i feel hopeful that this issue, particularly at this point in time, when the whole world is cowed down by the pandemic, would not only be a source of great solace to our readers but also raise their morale enormously. this issue, i earnestly believe will be noted down in indian school muscat’s history as we are physically distant yet virtually can quarantine our love and care. it would also set a new standard of excellence for the magazine. the ism family takes great pride in presenting this edition as it features our students’ creativity, ingenuity and flair, particularly when students cannot enjoy normal school life owing to unforeseen circumstances. i wish to convey to all my near and dear that we are in this together and we will get through this together. every page of this issue would testify to the fact that indian school muscat not only unearths students’ substantial reserves of latent talents, skills and abilities but also nurtures, nourishes and revitalizes them with renewed hope to cope with the demands of a highly intelligent and skilled world today with complete confidence and to make them models of perfection that others aspire to emulate. heartfelt thanks to all those who have invested a great deal of time and effort and left no stone unturned, united in social distancing, to bring this online publication to completion. happy reading! best wishes!

dear students, we do not have the luxury of a wait-and- see approach because we do not want any regrets in the rear view mirror and hence faculty and staff are making every effort to keep up regular communication with students and thanks to technology that is helping us all to keep at bay the obvious side effects of isolation. even during these challenging times technology ensures personal connection. communication with each one of us happens, every day in some form or another. posts through social media, our school website, and phone messages keep us connected. yes, the world is going through trying times but this exceptional challenging time will not last forever. we are eagerly waiting to see you all in school. the hustle and bustle, the cacophony, your mischief, your smiles are greatly missed. but we have to wait for the right time. dear students, do not become addictive towards digital technology. be judicious in your use. engage yourself in games or other exciting activities. stay connected to school and locate learning resources and be serious about virtual learning which our school provides us. develop a regular study habit. celebrate having more time to spend as a family. make it as fun as possible. connect with your near and dear ones, your friends, virtually. dear students, we shall overcome. let us believe in ourselves, have patience, push our limits, render support, pray and defeat the pandemic. continue to learn, hope and grow amidst the crisis. yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win. be positive. stay home. stay safe. stay blessed. with hopes of brighter and better future
that a deadly virus to forget covid 19 today has not just assumed massive proportions in the form of a pandemic but also changed the course of destiny of several nations. four months back, whatsapp forwards of videos showing people collapsing in china meant little in this part of the world. slowly it became fodder for living room discussions, that had originated in a wet market of wuhan was leaving a trail of death in its wake. the truth of our vulnerability hit us hard when the effects of the virus reached foreign shores and started spreading its tentacles far and wide, affecting whoever came in its way, irrespective of their social or financial standing. to this day the origin of the virus is a matter of numerous debates and its control, a matter of extensive research. whatever is known is the devastation caused by it, the consequences of the lockdown on nations, their economies and their citizens. our country too saw the exodus of migrant workers from various states to their home towns, the pitiable conditions of their existence and movement and also various measures taken by the government to contain the spread of the virus against all odds. amidst all the commendable job, performed tirelessly by our heroes- the doctors, nurses, care givers, police forces, administrators, the journalists, teachers, the sanitation staff and the frontline workers. what emerged more was the humane face of society, the people who discreetly made generous contributions to the funds created by various government bodies to battle this menace and not the good samaritans who distributed cooked food and water to their impoverished brethren. difficult times such as these prove that humanity is still alive and give us the positive impetus to never give up in the face of adversity. the need of the hour is to follow the guidelines laid down by the government, wherever we are, to maintain social distancing, to follow hygienic practices of washing our hands several times, wearing masks and gloves, using sanitizers and staying indoors. researchers are actively involved in the process, to discover a vaccine or cure. together we face this challenge and i am very sure that soon we will see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and emerge victorious. till then let us stay alert and stay safe! this what came to the forefront was

a dreamer among the stars u v 1 i want to find those who are – looking for a million dreams, loyal to their loved ones, united as a team. i want to find those who are – aiming for the blue sky, not afraid of failure, breaking free to fly. i want to find those who are – looking for a fresh start, brave in their darkest times, discovering new aspects of art. i want to find those who are – teaching the weak to be strong, serving the community, correcting themselves when wrong. i want to find those who are – strong when about to cry, living life to the extreme, desperate enough to try. i want to find them to show me how to be –a dreamer among the stars, an inspiration to somebody… 9 h e - khushi kothari - ix h
