4 It is a chameleon material that can be beaten, bent, stretched and melted. Steel sculpture can appear delicate while remaining strong. I hammer sheet and twist rod. When I build a sculpture around a human form, I wrap the body in a carapace of myth and daydream. Shape and texture tells the story in each work, so my color palette is generally limited to those natural to steel in its varied states. I incorporate textures and forms learned from bone and leaf during years of working in the world of biology. Along with these elements come designs derived from the lessons of serendipity and the deep wells of lore that connect us all. STEEL DOESN’T MIND A LITTLE TORTURE.
