www.thelikemagazine.com page 22 | Issue 010 Saves The Day is another band that I just DESPISED back in the day! Why?? ……for fuck’s sake. Certain people with a certain style were all up on them and I just wasn’t hav- ing it! Well, in my old age here, of course I had to get into them. I picked up a used copy of their first album “Can’t Slow Down,” which had a melodic hardcore sound to it. I was hooked. The band got a little more pop-rocky and found their zone and sound a couple albums later. Then they got signed to a major and very radio friendly with “In Reverie” and the kids didn’t like it! A few full lengths that are bit more rockin’ yet ‘indie’ sounding, with a few EPs of acoustic sessions later, Chris Conley and the fellas offer up their 8th full length back on the label where it all started, Equal Vision. This is the most sugary-sweet pop-rock they’ve sounded and it makes ya feel good. Each song is like a daydream. Some more bright and sunny like the opener “Remember.” “Stand In The Stars” kind of reminds me of that BoDeans song from the 90’s. Some more wispy daydreams like “Beyond All of Time” and “Xenophobic Blind Left Hook.” Lots of light distorted power chords and single note picked chords with bouncy beats. Pop-punkers include “Ring Pop” and “In the In Between,” WHICH I think will be this de- cade’s “The Middle” (ya know... the Jimmy Eat World song!) “Saves The Day” by Saves The Day is gonna turn emos’ frowns upside down! PLUS….. they’re gonna be on Warped Tour this year. I’m stoked! Time to get all Warped Tour nos- talgic.
